Texas Road Trip 2025 – Day Thirteen.

Alpine to San Angelo. 231 miles. 20th October 2025.

After a leisurely breakfast we loaded the car and set off for our next destination, San Angelo. The roads were once again very quiet and the US Highway 67 was long and straight.

Long straight roads.

The scenery was mostly desert or scrub to begin with ……………..

Scrub land with hills in the distance.
Cacti on the roadside.

…….but then became a little more industrial with oil and gas fields on both sides of the carriageway.

Some nodding donkeys and wind turbines.

In addition to the old dirty energy production was a number of new solar farms with hundreds of solar panels and on the hills were numerous wind turbines.

We stopped for lunch at a Dairy Queen in a small town called Big Lake. It was very busy with many locals coming out for their Sunday lunch. Suitably refreshed we returned to the road together with a playlist of some favourite motoring songs.

The road continues.

Arriving at the hotel (a Best Western) we were disappointed with the size of the room as we will be here for three nights. A quick visit to the counter led to us being upgraded to a large suite – result!!

The nice thing about the hotel area is there are pavements,a rarity in all the places we have visited so far, so after unpacking we were able to stretch our legs around the block. The St Joseph church building is just around the corner.

Tomorrow the temperature is expected to be in the mid 30s as we explore San Angelo.
