Heathrow to Austin. 8th October 2025.
After months of planning and an overnight stay at the Sofitel Hotel at Heathrow airport, the holiday had finally arrived. We checked in at the airport for our BA business class flight to Austin and made our way to the lounge for breakfast. This was the first disappointment of the day as we struggled to find a table and were amazed how busy the lounge was including queues for the toilet and washroom facilities. Eventually we found a space and settled down for the next couple of hours prior to boarding our flight. The Business Lounge experience was always one of the things that I look forward to at the start of a holiday but unfortunately this was one of the poorest in my opinion.
To board our flight entailed a shuttle coach journey from the terminal to the far side of the airport but at long last we settled into our seats ready for the flight.

The flight itself was lovely and smooth with a salmon lunch being served just after flying over Ireland ……………

……………followed by a delicious tea later in the afternoon.

We met some Texans on the flight who gave us a few tips for our trip., some remarking that they had lived in the State all their lives but still hadn’t visited all the places we are going.
Immigration at Austin airport was swift and easy with Sylvia pleased that they no longer use fingerprint recognition after our experience at Miami a few years ago. There was a short wait for the shuttle bus to take us to our first hotel, the Hilton at Austin airport where we will spend the night before starting our trip tomorrow..
